Mehsana: More than 1,000 people fell sick after eating food at a wedding feast in Mehsana town of Gujarat. The sick were taken to the hospital. The police have started an investigation into the case. The Gujarat police said action will be taken on the basis of the investigation report. According to Inspector Baimal Mehria of Visgar taluka police station, the son of former Congress leader Wazir Khan Pathan was married on March 3. He gave the reception on March 4. Between 12,000 and 14,000 people were called. Out of this, 1,057 guests have seen symptoms of food poisoning. Subsequently, they have been admitted to hospitals in Gandhinagar.

The same district's superintendent of police Parthajaisingh Gohil said that on the complaint of the hospital administration, the police have started an investigation after registering a case. He said that the samples of sweets and food items served at the reception have been collected by FSL and FDCA. His investigation report is awaited. The Health Department is also investigating this matter. Samples of vomiting and defecation of sick people have been taken. At first glance, it appears to be a case of negligence on the part of the caterer. It could also be a case of adulteration in food.

The police chief said that in such cases the FIR is lodged on behalf of the organizer or the victims. The aggrieved party can file a complaint against the caterer seeking damages and reimbursement of the expenses incurred on the treatment. Being a civil matter, no action has been taken so far. Moderate to severe symptoms were seen in about 1250 people. There is no news of any death so far. According to the report, when contacted Vishnu Patel, Chief Health Officer of Mehsana, he did not respond.
