One of the most loved actors of ‘Harry Potter'  actor  Robbie Coltrane, well known for playing ‘Hagrid’ in the Harry Potter franchise, died on Friday. Scottish actor, Robbie Coltrane, best known for playing Hagrid in the Harry Potter series, has died at the age of 72.

The news of his death was confirmed by the actor's agent Belinda Wright. She said he died Friday at a hospital in Scotland. She did not give a cause. In her statement about his death, Belinda Wright said that “as well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly witty and after 40 years of being proud to be called his agent, I shall miss him.”

Apart from his role in Harry Potter, Robbie Coltrane was well-known for his unwavering portrayal of a police officer in the British TV series 'Cracker.' Ever since the news of his death has come out, the fans have taken to social media to pay tribute to the actor. The actor first found fame in the 1990s as a hard-bitten detective in Cracker. For his performance on the show, he won the best actor award at the British Academy Television Awards (BAFTA) three years running.

The actor found worldwide recognition from his role as  Hagrid in the film adaptation of JK Rowling's beloved and bestselling Harry Potter series. He played the gentle half-giant, who acts as a mentor and friend to the boy wizard, in all eight Harry Potter films, released between 2001 and 2011. He was one of the most loved characters of the series. As soon as this news catches the eyes of people they started paying their tribute to veteran actor.

British actor Stephen Fry also paid his tribute. The actor took to twitter and wrote, "I first met Robbie Coltrane almost exactly 40 years ago. I was awe/terror/love struck all at the same time. Such depth, power & talent: funny enough to cause helpless hiccups & honking as we made our first TV show, “Alfresco”. Farewell, old fellow. You’ll be so dreadfully missed"
