The Election Commission has unveiled its strategy to ensure free and fair elections for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar emphasized the importance of addressing various challenges, encapsulated in what he termed as the "4M formula": muscle, money, misinformation, and MCC violations.

During a press conference, Kumar asserted the Commission's firm stance against any use of force or violence during the electoral process. He stressed that the Commission would take strict action against any incidents of violence to prevent disruptions to the democratic process.

Referring to Mahatma Gandhi's teachings, Kumar highlighted the significance of maintaining peace throughout the electoral period, emphasizing that violence resolves nothing and is counterproductive to the democratic spirit.

Addressing specific concerns, Kumar noted the prevalence of issues such as muscle power and money power in different states. He expressed the Commission's commitment to curbing the misuse of money in elections, citing a significant increase in money seizures during recent state polls.

To tackle the challenge of misinformation, particularly in the digital age, the CEC outlined measures aimed at swiftly debunking fake news. He urged the public to verify information before amplifying it and emphasized the importance of relying on authoritative sources for accurate information.

Furthermore, Kumar mentioned the Commission's collaboration with various agencies, including the Coast Guard, GST, and Police, to prevent the misuse of money, particularly in the form of illicit inducements like liquor.

As the nation gears up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission calls upon citizens to remain vigilant and assist in upholding the integrity of the electoral process.
