Udupi: In the wake of the Hijab-Saffron Shawl issue, the district administration in Udupi has imposed Section 144 of the CrPC within a 200-meter radius of the district's high schools.

Orders prohibiting certain activities as a precaution, Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code was applied from 6 a.m. on February 14 to 6 p.m. on February 19. The Deputy Commissioner made the decision after receiving a request from the Udupi district's three Sub Divisional Police Officers.

The move is being taken as a precaution after the state government opted to reopen high schools on February 14 in response to a High Court order.

According to the order, assemblies of five or more people around the school's perimeter are prohibited. Protests and rallies are among the types of gatherings that are prohibited. Propaganda, music, and remarks that incite violence are absolutely prohibited. The Hijab debate started in Udupi City and quickly expanded to Kundapur and other parts of the state.
