Karnataka: Amit Shah will visit flood-hit Belagavi district today

NEW DELHI: Floods in several parts of the country including Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat have been raging over the past few days due to continuous rains. Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will conduct an aerial survey of begal Belagavi district in Karnataka today. According to information, Amit Shah will reach Belagavi this afternoon and will take stock of the situation in the district by aerial survey.

In Kerala, the situation has been brought under control due to incessant rains in Wayanad, which triggered landslides in Puthumala village of Meppdi Panchayat. Officials of National Disaster Response Force, Fire and Rescue Department and Forest Department are currently engaged in relief and rescue operations. Giving details of the flood situation in Karnataka, CM BS Yeddyurappa said that more than 24 people have died due to flood.

He said 1024 villages have been seriously affected by the floods, 20 NDRF teams, 10 army teams, 5 navy teams and 2 SDRF teams have been mobilized for relief and rescue operations in the state, with CM Yeddyurappa saying in his announcement that The kin of the deceased will be given compensation of 5 lakh rupees.
