BUDAPEST: Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Szijjarto, stated in Budapest on Friday that the country will open a humanitarian corridor for inhabitants of Ukraine and third countries leaving Ukraine.

India, Iran, Ecuador, Israel, Zimbabwe, the Maldives, Mongolia, and Jordan are among the third countries that have asked Hungary for assistance in returning its citizens. "We're going to let them in without a visa and take them to Debrecen (east Hungary)," Szijjarto stated in a video message broadcast on his Facebook page.

The flow of individuals has been consistent at the five border crossing sites between Ukraine and Hungary, although the Ukrainian Foreign Minister reported 3-5-kilometer-long car lines on the Ukrainian side. Hungary will facilitate and speed up border check procedures for humanitarian deliveries to Ukraine at Ukraine's request, he added. According to report, he stated that Ukraine's energy (gas and oil) supply has been uninterrupted.

On Thursday evening, the Hungarian government passed a decree providing for temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees. This applies to all Ukrainian citizens as well as third-country nationals who are legally residing in Ukraine.
