New Delhi: Congress Lok Sabha MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who is again embroiled in a controversy after calling newly elected Excellency Draupadi Murmu as the "Raashtrapatni", said he would meet the President and apologise for his statement. At the same time, he also said that he will not apologise before these hypocrites. Adhir Ranjan has now clarified that the mistake was made due to knowing less Hindi.

It may be recalled that there was an uproar during the proceedings in the monsoon session on Thursday when Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury used the word 'Rashtrapatni' for President Draupadi Murmu. After his statement, the uproar started in both the Houses. The ruling party MP asked Adhir Ranjan to apologise. BJP MP Smriti Irani also asked Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi to apologise for Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's statement as Chowdhury is the leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha.

However, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury admitted his statement in Parliament to be a mistake after the controversy escalated and said that he cannot use the wrong words for the President even in his dreams. He also said that he would meet the President in private and apologise. Hitting out at the BJP, he said he will not apologise to the hypocrites. He said that due to his low knowledge of Hindi, he had made such a mistake. At the same time, he has asked the BJP not to drag Sonia Gandhi in this matter.
