New Delhi: There was a lot of uproar in parliament over the insult to President Draupadi Murmu by Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. Union Minister Smriti Irani launched a scathing attack on Congress over the issue. Irani also asked Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi to apologise. But this irked Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi and even told Smriti Irani to 'don't talk to me.'

In fact, Adhir Ranjan had called President Murmu the Rashtrapatni. The BJP lashed out at the Congress and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury over this. However, Chaudhary, seeing the controversy escalating, later said that he had forgotten and his tongue slipped. He said the BJP is giving undue weight to the issue. At the same time, Union Smriti Irani referred to Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury's statement during a discussion in Parliament, saying that the Congress is anti-tribal, anti-poor and anti-women. Congress has acted to hurt the Constitution by disrespecting a woman from a tribal and poor family holding the highest constitutional post in the country under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and attacking her dignity.

After Smriti Irani, there was an uproar in the House and the House was adjourned. After this, Sonia Gandhi went to BJP MP Rama Devi and said that Adhir Ranjan has apologised on the matter. Why is my name being taken? However, after the House was adjourned at 12 o'clock during the ruckus, the BJP MP, Sonia Gandhi, was raising the slogan 'Resign Two'. Sonia Gandhi was walking out of the House, but after hearing the sloganeering, seeing the opportunity, Sonia Gandhi returned to Rama Devi and said that Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had apologised. In the meantime, Smriti Irani asked him, "Said something" then Sonia got angry at this and shouted don't talk to me. This was followed by a heated exchange of words between Smriti and Sonia Gandhi. The debate continued for 2 to 3 minutes. After this, MPs from both sides came forward and took Sonia Gandhi and Smriti Irani separately. After the incident, Smriti Irani accused Sonia Gandhi of threatening her.
