Gopaldas Saxena closed his eyes yesterday, in the Delhi AIIMS and departed from the world. He was a renowned poet of our nation and penned various songs for several music directors such as Shankar-Jaikishan and S.D.Burman.

He was born in Uttar Pradesh, in a village called Puravali near Etawah. He wrote various beautiful poetries with the Pen name, Neeraj. He won various awards by the government of India like Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.

In an interview, Neeraj revealed that he had written songs for some music directors. When these musicians passed away, he went into a state of depression and decided never to write for the movies.

Neeraj wrote beautifully in Hindi and wrote equally well in Urdu. He was the most famous poets across the country and continued to influence the youth. He participated in the various Kavi Sammelans across the country and with great enthusiasm.

1. Dard Diya Hai

2. Aasaavari

3. Kaarvaan Guzar Gaya

4. Geet Jo Gaaye Nahin

5. Geet-Ageet

 

He has also been known for his Ghazals such as:

1. Tammam Umra Main ek Ajnabee Ke Ghar Main Raha

2. Dur Se Dur Talak ek bhi Darakht na tha

3. Jitna Kam Saamaan Rahega

 

Neeraj shall always remain in our hearts and shall always be remembered for his beautiful pieces of art.
