Indian Pollution : Serious solution necessary

Recently, the World Health Organisation released a report on 20 most polluted cities of the world. Delhi rejoiced as it was no longer the most polluted Indian city. But, 10 cities among the top 20 were Indian cities. This is something disturbing. The marketing slogan of Indian tourism is Incredible India and truly India is incredible in some disheartning and some fascinating ways.

One among the top issues the country is facing is pollution. On the one hand where Delhi government is doing its bit with the odd-even plan, there still remains 9 other Indian cities that need to take this issue seriously and take steps to solve this problem.

Since Delhi is the capital city, a lot of attention is given to it ignoring the smaller cities which made it to the list like Gwalior, Allahbad, Patna, Raipur, Ludhiana, Kanpur, Khanna, Firozabad and Lucknow. Indian government needs to realise that it is not just the capital city that they are responsible for, but the entire country needs to be taken care by them.

As far as Delhi is concerned, AAP took no time to claim credit over the ranking without realising that it will take years and a lot of integrated effort to curb the problem from the city. China ranks first among the most populous countries of the world followed by India. China is also larger in area and yet it has managed to have lower pollution level with only four of its cities making it to the list.

Lakhs of vehicles are seen on roads every day. The planning of cities isn't adequate and lack a proper drainage system. Indian cities have large slum areas and the dumping grounds in every city without a proper waste management system make things worse. India faces every type of pollution- be it noise- coz we Indians love high volume djs and don't care if someone faces trouble because of us, be it air- we Indians won't ever prefer public transport coz then it might lower our image or be it water- we are so religious that in the river we consider as holy , we wash our clothes and throw garbage. We Indians need to realise that for sustainable development of our country, pollution has to be taken care of.

Focus of the government should be in reducing the whole of country's pollution and not on some specific cities as for country's development, equitable development with healthy citizens is important as in the upcoming years, this will be of utmost importance for the generations to come.
