NEW DELHI: Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways on Wednesday told the Rajya Sabha that by 2024, road infrastructure in India will be equivalent to that of the United States. Before 2024, as many as 26 green express highways will be built which will bring down travel time considerably.

Once the highways are built, travel time from Delhi to Dehradun, Delhi to Haridwar, Delhi to Jaipur would only take around two hours. Delhi to Chandigarh will be completed in 2.30 hours, Delhi to Amritsar in 4, and Delhi to Mumbai in 12.

The Minister was responding to Congress MP Rajeev Shukla's query during Question Hour on the fund availability of NHAI. ".Government is constructing 26 green highways. By 2024, India's road network will resemble that of the United States. There is a surplus of money. Gadkari responded, "We are dedicated to transforming the look of the nation's road infrastructure.

Regarding funding, he said that the NHAI could build five lakh crore worth of roads annually.

According to data provided by the government, 1,338 cases in Uttar Pradesh were registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) between the years 2018 and 2020,  RLD's Jayant Chaudhary said. However, only 83 of them experienced a conviction, representing a 6% conviction rate.

"This demonstrates that the legislation is being applied slightly incorrectly. How are you going to make the UP police more aware of the law? Chaudhary questioned Nityanand Rai, MoS for Housing.

This is state data, not like all decisions have been made regarding everything. The minister added that state governments also file cases under UAPA.
