From the very long time Dance has been a way to convey the emotion whether its happiness, joy, tragedy, or love. Dance is the original most antique form of human expression. Through the body and physical language, dance has a powerful connection with the emotional and spiritual worlds. Dance is the universal language. It represents human identity and a celebration of the human spirit. Dance is the artistic heart of kinship. It is a sacred universal therapy.

And to celebrate the joy of dance International Dance Day will be celebrated on April 29 across the world through promotion by the International Dance Council (CID). The day was introduced in 1982 by the International Dance Committee of the UNESCO International Theater Institute. The date was chosen to commemorate the birthday of Jean Georges Noverre who was a French dancer and ballet master and a great reformer of dance.

Every year a message from a well-known dance personality is circulated throughout the world. The intention of International Dance Day and the Message is to bring all dance together on this day, to celebrate this art form and revel in its universality, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together in peace and friendship with a common language of Dance.

Around the world there are events on World Dance Day such as open door courses, exhibitions, articles concerning all kinds of dance evenings, street shows and special performances etc. In 2014 around 50 classical dancers got together to perform a flash mob at Chennai and performed dance. It is said to be the first flash mob of classical dancers.
