Aizawl: Transport Minister TJ Lalnuntluanga on Tuesday launched the online payment system in the offices of the State Transport Department. Speaking on the occasion, he said that "The department in collaboration with National Informatics Center (NIC) and State Bank of India (SBI) has launched an online payment system, which users can access anywhere and anytime to ensure ease of payment and avoid physical cash transactions at cash counters. The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown delayed the implementation of the project. However, it also put pressure on the department to quickly shift from physical to digital mode of payment ", They said.

NIC was incorporated to host and design the software and provide all necessary technical support. The Minister expressed his gratitude to the officials of NIC, SBI and Transport Department for whose efforts it was possible to successfully launch the project for the benefit of the general public.

The online payment system is divided into two components. The first component deals with VAHAN- New Vehicle Registration, Permit Renewal, Duplicate Permit Issuance, Tax Payment, Special Permit Issuance, Fitness Renewal Fee, Ownership Transfer Fee, NOC Issuance, Registration Renewal, Duplicate Registration Certificate and Change of Address . And the second component is SARTHI- a platform for submission of applications like learner license, driving license, conductor license, license renewal, change in name, address and photo, duplicate driving license, conductor license and update phone number.
