The United States has announced that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will embark on a journey to Israel in an effort to directly engage with Israeli authorities regarding the current situation in the region. This mission, scheduled from October 11 to October 13, 2023, will also include a stopover in Jordan, as confirmed by the US Department of State.

During his visit, Secretary Antony Blinken will pay his respects to the victims of recent terrorist attacks in Israel, vehemently condemning these acts of violence. The official statement further underlined the United States' unwavering support for Israel and its people.

Matthew Miller, a spokesperson for the State Department, revealed that Blinken eagerly anticipates discussions with high-ranking Israeli officials. These conversations are an extension of the ongoing dialogue between the US government and Israel, which commenced following the initial attacks on Saturday. Additionally, talks will focus on bolstering Israel's security and reaffirming the nation's inherent right to self-defense.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the US National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, expressed uncertainty about the number and condition of American citizens taken hostage in the region. Efforts are underway to ascertain the status of these individuals, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

Furthermore, US President Joe Biden acknowledged the tragic loss of 14 American lives in Israel and confirmed the presence of additional US hostages. Recognizing that American citizens are among those held by Hamas, Biden has directed his team to collaborate with intelligence agencies and deploy experts from various US government entities.

In his conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Biden assured Israel that the United States will continue to provide the necessary support for its defense and security. The American leader reiterated his commitment to ensuring Israel's requirements are met.

The conflict, which began on October 7, has taken a significant toll on both sides. Hamas initiated a sudden and aggressive attack, resulting in approximately 900 Israeli casualties and over 2,616 injuries. In response, Israel launched a robust counter-offensive, resulting in more than 770 Palestinian casualties, with 4,000 individuals sustaining injuries in Gaza. Tragically, this toll includes 140 children and 120 women, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
