Itu Mondal from Jharkhand has already registered her name in the record books even before making her first raid at the Khelo India Youth Games. At the age of 13, this Kabaddi player with an innocent face has made it to this edition of the Games as the youngest player.
Itu Mondal, the daughter of a tractor driver, fell in love with Kabaddi when she was just 8 years old. Despite having all the women around her, she has made her move quickly and has managed to be a part of the Under-18 youth team. After his first match against Maharashtra, she said, "My parents were worried about me but I was never scared. Itu Mandal's record is not going to last long. Her sister who is five years younger than her has also started liking Kabaddi and she has become a fantastic player.''
Itu, from Madhuban village in Dumka district of Jharkhand, said, "I am the eldest in my family but my parents have also given me a free hand. They have not put any pressure on me to take responsibility of the family so far. Itu has a long way to go in the game but she already knows what to do after hanging her boots. She said, "I want to be a coach. As soon as I learn enough about the game, I will start coaching. I want to work with the youth and am thinking of helping them to love Kabaddi.''
