Jammu: A judge who punished criminals for their crimes has been convicted in a rape and cheating case himself. A fast track court in Jammu and Kashmir has found the judge guilty in its judgement. A deputy judge in Jammu was accused of raping and cheating a woman seeking legal aid from him in 2018. The Deputy Judge was suspended after the charge.

According to a report received, the convicted sub-judge has been identified as Rakesh Kumar Abrol. In his judgement, the Presiding Officer of Fast Track Court Jammu Khalil Chaudhary said that the conclusion that the conversation yields is that all the evidence on the record indicates the crime of the accused. The court in its judgement said that the evidence presented justifies the allegations. Therefore, the offender is convicted of offences under Sections 420 and 376 (2) (k) RPC.

However, the court is yet to announce the sentence. The court will hear the sentence on Saturday. The court further said that the effective person should be more responsible and sensitive to the common people keeping in view his reach, influence and authority. They are expected to know and understand the meaning of authority and law with experience and knowledge. According to the prosecution, the victim and the judge, a resident of Ramban, met when she was fighting a case. As a judicial officer, Abrol promised legal aid and asked her to join hands in domestic affairs. The woman then started working at the judge's house. The judge also promised to give the woman better education to her daughter. The criminal had also promised to pay her a salary of Rs.5000 per month. That is why he raped the woman by engaging her in his words.
