Kochi: Askar Ali from Kerala, who recently renounced Islam, has alleged that his relatives are now harassing him. He said that before addressing the Essences Global Conference on May 1, his relatives had also tried to kidnap him. He told the media, "On the pretext of discussing family matters, two relatives came to me and took me to the beach in the morning. Later, two other people arrived in the car. My relatives, with their help, tried to force me into the car. A man broke my mobile phone. I started screaming. Hearing my screams, people who rushed to the spot called the police. '

Askar Ali is currently staying at his friend's house. Ali's family members had filed a missing report, due to which he had to appear before a magistrate. "I decided to leave this religion after studying Islam in detail. When I (Hudawi) was doing the course, the opportunity to read material other than material related to Islam was extremely low. During the lockdown, I got a chance to read other topics, which opened my eyes. Askar said that those who leave religion are considered by their family members as vile beings.

On Wednesday (May 4, 2022), the report said that 24-year-old Askar was attacked by a mob of fundamentalists to leave Islam. They have registered a case of an attempt to murder with the Kollam police. Ali, in his complaint, has alleged that he was attacked by a mob after he renounced Islam. Apart from this, due to leaving Islam, they are also getting threats from the people of the community. Askar Ali, a resident of Malappuram, has completed a 12-year-old Hudawi religious programme from a prominent religious academy in Malappuram. He had gone to Kollam on Sunday (May 1, 2022) to share his experience as a student of Islamic studies at an event organised by 'Essence Global', an organisation promoting 'scientific thinking, humanism and the spirit of reform in society.'
