THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Swapna Suresh, a key witness in the notorious gold smuggling case, joined HRDS India, an RSS-backed NGO, on Friday.

Swapna took up the position of director-Corporate Social Responsibilities at the NGO's Thodupuzha headquarters in Idukki district. With this job, she gets Rs. 43,000 per month. She added that accepting a new job will provide her with a source of income and that she will let the debates surrounding her run their course. She would mostly operate from the NGO's corporate office in New Delhi, according to HRDS. Apart from Kerala, the NGO operates in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Tripura, Assam, and Jharkhand.

Swapna appeared before the Enforcement Directorate early this week after receiving a notice from them in the wake of new disclosures about co-accused and top IAS official M.Sivasankar, who was also in jail and was recently reinstated after receiving bail.

The case resurfaced last month when M. Sivasankar, the then-principal secretary to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, disclosed in an autobiography that he "never did any favour to Swapna" and that he "never realised the iPhone she gave him was part of a bribe."

Enraged by this statement, Swapna said that Sivasankar had ruined her life and he was aware of all the happenings.
