To overcome the economic stress caused by the enforced lockdown to prevent the spread of pandemic coronavirus (COVID-19), the Center is considering suggestions made by some states. States have demanded relaxation of the tourism and hospitality sector in lockdown 5.

The economies of Puducherry, Kerala, Goa, etc. and some north-eastern states and union territories are very much dependent on tourism and hospitality. These two sectors are yet to be exempted from lockdown restrictions. During lockdown 5.0, the central government is exploring ways to meet the demand for opening hotels, restaurants, beaches, etc. It is expected that the central government can give more relaxation in restrictions on these, due to which economic activities will be started in the states.

According to media reports, a senior government official said that the states whose economy is dependent on tourism and hospitality are still struggling and these states have sought to make the rules easier for such areas. It is expected that tourism and hospitality can be relieved in Lockdown 5.0. In his statement, the senior government official said that states have given suggestions for opening hotels, restaurants, tours, etc. by limiting the number of visitors. Along with this, it is also suggested to make the Arogya Setu App and temperature check mandatory. States have requested the Center so that through this they can increase the revenue collection required to run the state.
