Los Angeles, In 1983, an employee of Madame Tussauds Wax Museum in London took a lock of David Bowie's hair to help create a color-matched wig for the singer's wax figurine.

After the wig was made, that employee kept the sample in a frame. Now, that hair is going up for auction.

Auctioneer Margaret Barrett said, "We have sold a lot of celebrity hair in the past but never any of David Bowie's. This is pretty unique. It is difficult to predict how much it will go for but we recently sold some of John Lennon's hair, which was snipped from his head by his barber, for a huge sum" .

"David Bowie has now passed away and fans are devastated by the news so we are expecting to get a lot of interest in the sale", Barrett added.

Now, the bids on the lock of hair are open, ahead of the sale on June 25.
