Lumpy virus wreaks havoc, police impose these restrictions

Mumbai: The Mumbai Police has imposed a complete ban on animal exhibitions, animal markets and transportation of animals to control, prevent and eradicate possible lumpy skin disease. Lumpy skin infection is an infectious disease spreading to animals in Maharashtra and other states. In order to prevent the infection of the disease in animals, the Mumbai Police Commissioner has issued an order and imposed the ban.

The Mumbai Police Commissioner has declared the entire district of Brihanmumbai as a containment zone for lumpy skin diseases in animals under Section 10(2) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, as per the order dated 23/02/1959, Section 144 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases in Animals Act, 2009, Code of Criminal Procedure 1973.

Under this, no person can bring any manure, grass or other material and carcasses, skins or any part of such animals or any other product for the shelter of living or dead animals, animals of the said affected bovine species from the controlled area, which have come in contact with any of the said affected animals. According to an order issued by Mumbai Police Operations Police Commissioner Sanjay Latkar, the restrictions will be in force from September 14 to October 13.
