Pune: A gold saree has been worn to the statue of the goddess at the Shri Mahalaxmi Temple in Pune, Maharashtra today, on the very important occasion of Vijayadashmi. Giving this information recently, Shri Mahalaxmi Temple activist Deepak Vanarse said, "11 years ago, a devotee presented a gold saree.'' He further said that the statue of the goddess is worn on only two occasions. The first of them is Vijayadashmi and the second is Lakshmi Puja.

He also said that the gold saree weighs 16 kg. Let us also tell all of you that temples are specially decorated on the special occasion of Vijayadashmi in Maharastra. In fact, in all these temples, the Sri Mahalaxmi Temple in Pune has its own place. On the special occasion of Vijayadashmi i.e. Dussehra, the goddess Mother is dressed in a gold saree.

This tradition is not now but a tradition that has been going on for the last 11 years. It is said that the 16 kg gold saree was offered to Goddess Maa by a devotee and from that day on Vijayadashami and Lakshmi puja, especially goddess maa, this special saree is worn. Shri Mahalaxmi Temple activist Deepak Vanarse says that on this day, the special makeup of Goddess Mother is done and on this day the temple is also crowded with devotees.
