Thane: A 40-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death by an angry mob in a village in Thane district of Maharashtra. Police said on Monday that a partner of the deceased was injured in the incident in Khatiwali village of the district. Giving information about the case, police inspector Raju Vanjari said that the incident occurred at 3 am on Sunday, when both were allegedly trying to escape after stealing in some houses.

He said that both the victims are residents of Panchmahal in Gujarat. He told that a man made noise after seeing both, after which the villages gathered and started running after them. They said that while trying to escape by crossing a wall, the two victims fell and the villagers started hitting them with brick and stones. After this, both were caught and also beaten fiercely.

He was then taken to a nearby hospital, where one of them, Dinesh Mavi, was declared dead by doctors, the official said. Vanjari said that Mavi's partner is injured and is undergoing treatment at the hospital. He said that a case has been registered against eight villagers for charges of murder and rioting. Vanzari said that no one has been arrested in the case yet and investigations are on.
