Chandigarh: In the early hours of April 6th, a tragic incident unfolded in the Sunny Enclave area of Kharar, SAS Nagar district, Punjab. A 29-year-old man, identified as Anas Qureshi, reportedly stabbed his 27-year-old female friend, identified as Ekta, to death. The sequence of events suggests that Anas entered Ekta's house during the intervening nights of April 5th and 6th.

Ekta, who resided with her family, returned home late from work while her family was attending a Jagran. Anas, allegedly following her, entered the house. CCTV footage captured him leaving the premises in different attire shortly afterward. Attempting to flee in Ekta's car, Anas met with an accident 80 km away near Shahbad, Haryana, and was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh, where he remains in critical condition.

Ekta, a manager at a multinational company in Mohali, had relocated to Sunny Enclave six months prior with her family. On the night of the incident, her family was attending the Jagran, and Ekta's younger brother recounted her refusal to accompany them, citing Anas's visit. Upon her return home around 2:30 AM, Anas was seen trailing her.

Three hours later, Anas left the house wearing different clothes and was observed carrying alcohol bottles. The family learned of the accident involving Ekta's car around 6 AM, leading them to attempt to contact her, to no avail. Upon returning home, they discovered Ekta's lifeless body on the first floor, bearing multiple stab wounds to the neck.

Ekta and Anas were reportedly in a relationship for four years, having met at Ekta's workplace. Recent tensions in their relationship had led Ekta to confide in her family about Anas's alleged mental harassment. Despite attending family events, including her brother's wedding, Anas's relationship with Ekta had deteriorated.

Law enforcement officials are closely monitoring Anas's condition in the hospital. Once he is deemed fit for discharge, authorities plan to take him into custody for further investigation. DSP Karan Singh Sandhu emphasized the absence of signs of forced entry or struggle at the crime scene and the ongoing efforts to locate the murder weapon.

As investigations continue, Ekta's body has been transferred to Kharar Civil Hospital for autopsy. Anas faces charges under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for the alleged murder of Ekta. Authorities are working diligently to ascertain the motive behind this tragic incident.
