NEW DELHI: Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG) have become the third franchise owners in the II-nd edition of the Legends League Cricket to be held in India from September 16.
Adani Group and GMR Group have already each acquired a team for the league's second season, making it a four-team franchise affair. First up for LLC will be Kolkata's Eden Gardens, then Lucknow, New Delhi, Cuttack, and Jodhpur. Playoff and finals locations have not yet been chosen.
With prominent names like recently retired Eoin Morgan, Chris Gayle, Jonty Rodes, and more, there will be a representation of 11 nations that play ODI cricket, from India to Zimbabwe. Yusuf Pathan, Virender Sehwag, M. Kaif, RP Singh, and other players are Indian. The LLC will begin in Kolkata's Eden Gardens and move on to Lucknow, New Delhi, Cuttack, and Jodhpur. The finals and play-offs are anticipated to take place in Dehradun.
MEMG Chairman Ranjan Pai said, "We are excited about our collaboration with the Legends Cricket League. This partnership with a game that every Indian enjoys will let us reach out to our countrymen and have a good influence on their life by providing world-class healthcare and education services, as well as financial security from hospital bills through health insurance." LLC Chairman Vivek Khushalani said, "It gives us great pleasure to welcome Manipal Group as our third franchise. The brand will benefit even more from affiliation with the cricketing greats."
This season, the league will spend close to USD 15 million and is looking to tweak the business model in such a way that it will make all the teams break even in this season.
