Mumbai: All the passengers of the Mahalakshmi Express stranded on the railway track have been evacuated after heavy rains in Mumbai. The passengers who have been rescued by the train include 9 pregnant women. A statement issued by the Railways said the total number of passengers is 700. The Special Relief Train will reach Kolhapur from Kalyan with passengers evacuated from the train. 19 coaches have been installed on this train.

Railways have also made arrangements for food, water and medicines for passengers. The rescue and relief operation was started at around 11 a.m. after the train was stuck on the track. Teams of Navy, Air Force, NDRF and local administration had put their strength in the rescue and relief operations to evacuate the stranded passengers. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, all the passengers who were evacuated from the train are being shifted to Revengepur station.

Earlier, the passengers stranded in the Mahalakshmi Express had been told by the state CM Devendra Fannavis that 'don't worry'. C.M. Fadnavis appealed to the people, "You people don't panic, the train is standing in the right place. He assured the people that the relief work would be completed soon. A statement issued by the NDRF during the rescue operation said that more than 500 people have been evacuated safely.
