New Delhi: In the midst of the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, the Indian government is making constant efforts to return the Indian students trapped there. There are about 18000 Indian students in Ukraine who are being brought home. For this, teams of Union Ministers have also been constituted by the Central Government, who are trying to bring the students coming from Ukraine to India by going to the countries sharing the border with Ukraine. It is reported that the government is also preparing to admit these students coming from Ukraine in medical colleges of India.

Actually, for the students who want to become a doctor in India, the Government of India conducts the NEET exam every year at the all India level. In this, about 8 lakh students are able to clear this exam every year. There are about 90,000 seats in the medical colleges of the country and half of these seats are in government medical colleges. In such a situation, the remaining students have to move abroad. According to the report, about 20 lakh rupees are spent annually in private sector colleges in India. Whereas in Ukraine, it takes about 10 lakh rupees per year to study medicine. Regarding Indian students going to study MBBS abroad, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi says that about 90 percent of Indian students studying medicine abroad are unable to pass the exam for medical admission in India. Joshi further said that 60 percent of Indian students going abroad for medical studies go to China, Russia and Ukraine.

The total fee for MBBS course in these countries is around Rs 35 lakh, which includes six years of education, living expenses, coaching and passing a screening test on return to India. At the same time, in India this expenditure is 45 to 55 lakh rupees or more. This is the reason why most of the students go abroad to study. Let us tell you that every year around 20,000 to 25,000 students from India go abroad to study medicine. A big reason behind this is that MBBS study abroad is much cheaper than in India.
