Mumbai: A special Mumbai court has acquitted Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje alias Chhota Rajan in a 38-year-old attempt to murder case. This gangster is considered to be one of the oldest cases against Chhota Rajan. In fact, he was accused of attacking two policemen in the case. He has now been acquitted in the same case. Chhota Rajan was booked 38 years ago in a liquor smuggling case. Chhota Rajan's lawyer Tushar Khandare recently said that the case was registered in 1983 when a team of Tilak Nagar police station tried to stop Chhota Rajan who was bringing smuggling liquor in a taxi.

The police team consisted of two officers and four constables while Rajan was accompanied by two other accomplices in the car. As per the information received, a closure report was filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation earlier this year stating that the main witnesses in the case had passed away in the last few years. Several important documents and articles were lost, including weapons used by Chhota Rajan in 1983. On the other hand, the special CBI court had rejected the closure report and said that the material available against Chhota Rajan was sufficient to prosecute him.

Let us also inform all of you that Chhota Rajan is lodged in Tihar jail in Delhi after being sent back from Indonesia in October 2015. Let us also tell you that Chhota Rajan is facing trial in about 70 cases. Chhota Rajan has been sentenced to life imprisonment in the 2011 murder case of journalist Jyotirmay Dey.
