Mumbai: The war between the environmental activists and the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) has been going on for the last five years in the country's financial capital Mumbai. This war is about 2,185 trees being cut. This war came on the road on Friday when many protesters clung to the trees to protest against the cutting of trees. This confrontation has almost ended with the deployment of police on Saturday. Police have arrested 29 protesters without bail. Section 144 prohibition is in force in the area and cut trees are lying in many places.

In this battle of development and preservation, it is difficult to say who won and who lost, but the work on the Worli-Bandra sealink between Colaba and SeepZ is going on unabated. As soon as the Bombay High Court overturned the order of the BMC tree tribunal and allowed the MMRC to cut the trees at Aarey, it immediately started its work. On Saturday, the High Court refused to immediately accept the plea of activist Joroo Bhatena and NGO Vanashakti seeking a ban on cutting of trees. On which the court said that by doing so, it would violate its earlier decision.

Amrita Bhattacharjee of Aare Conservative Group has said that more than 1,500 trees have been cut on Saturday. MMRC managing director Ashwini Bhide said, "The planned work is nearing completion, but I do not have the exact details of the felling of trees." The protesters who were arrested include Shiv Sena vice-president Priyanka Chaturvedi and former mayor Subha Raul.
