Nagpur NMC seizes 3,000 kg banned plastic

Nagpur:  On Monday, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) confiscated 2,948 kilos of plastic in a big action against prohibited plastic products to date.

Officials in the Dhantoli, Gandhibagh, Satranjipura, and Lakadganj zones initiated action against four establishments and fined them Rs 35,000 as per instructions from municipal commissioner Radhakrishnan B.  The action was taken by NMC nuisance detection squad (NDS) led by Virsen Tambe.

Jai Durga Enterprises in Cotton Market's Dhantoli zone, Modern Textiles in Itwari's Gandhibagh zone, and Ghatakhaye Agarbatti in Tandapeth's Satranjpura zone all were imposed fines of Rs 5,000 each for using prohibited plastic bags.
According to reports, the prohibited plastic was shipped from Bhavnagar, Gujarat. Based on this evidence, NDS launched legal action against Lakadganj and Mouranipur Transport Company, fining them Rs 20,000 each.

The civic body is also acting against other violences of environmental laws. It imposed a fine of Rs. 8,000 against a resident of Dhantoli for not disposing tree waste. In different case, a fine of Rs12,000 was charged on Dinesh sweet mart and Natranj bar and restaurant on Kharbi road for spreading garbage on road.

Shyam Opticals at Kamptee Road in the Mangalwari zone was also imposed fine  Rs. 5,000 for performing roadside glass cutting activity that emitted noise and dust. Bajrangbali Constructions in Vaishali Nagar in Ashi Nagar zone received a Rs 10,000 punishment for material that was left lying around the road.
