Huge shortage of sports coach, parliamentary Standing Committee recommends

The Parliamentary Standing Committee has expressed serious concern over the acute shortage of sports coaches in the country. In order to provide basic facilities like education to the players, the committee has recommended opening residential sports schools, which leaves most players deprived. In recent years, players who have succeeded in their sports have been behind their personal initiative and personal trainers.

In the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Human Resources presented its report on the 'Khelo India' scheme. The 31-member committee headed by Satyanarayana Jatia has described in detail the efforts being made in the Games as inadequate. The committee has also suggested measures to make domestic players a threat at the global level.

On this matter, the committee headed by Jatia found that basic facilities for sports in the country are not very satisfactory. For this, the committee has recommended encouraging the private sector in the sports infrastructure sector. The committee says that the private sector can prove to be very favorable to promote and enhance the quality of sports culture. To encourage sports, a public-private partnership model has to be adopted. To increase the quality in the sports sector, better training and search for skilled players will have to be entrusted to the private sports academy.
