Mumbai: Independent MP Navneet Rana and her independent MLA husband Ravi Rana, who were arrested after they tried to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray's residence while talking to the media, said they decided to read these Chaupaiyas because "Maharashtra is facing a deep threat...'' The state government's allegations over the arrests following a controversy over the use of loudspeakers for the Azaan are that it was at the behest of the BJP that the Rana couple were trying to provoke people to fuel the controversy. When it was said that he was accused of politicising the Hanuman Chalisa, Navneet Rana said, "Whenever there is a big threat, only Hanuman Chalisa and Sankatmochan (another name of Lord Hanuman) are remembered, and I think today Maharashtra is in deep danger..."

Earlier today, a Mumbai court had sent a notice to the couple after the police sought suspension of the Rana couple's bail. Police claimed that the Rana couple violated their bail conditions by discussing the matter with reporters before going to Delhi and meeting PM Narendra Modi. According to the Rana couple, their visit to Delhi is to bring out the treatment meted out to them in jail. Navneet Rana claimed that even after the advice of the doctors, she was not allowed to undergo treatment. On the days she spent in the same jail and the "mistreatment of a woman," Ravi Rana said, "If there was Balasaheb Thackeray, it would never have happened... But nowhere is Uddhav Thackeray... Who is afraid of a woman..."

The Rana couple says that Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has actually come to power by using PM Narendra Modi's name. Ravi Rana said, "After getting the votes, they stabbed the Bharatiya Janata Party in the back... And he also stabbed Balasaheb in the back...'' Speaking on the occasion, Navneet said, "Let them try to come to power in their name... Ram bhakts and Hanuman bhakts will show them the reality..."
