BHUBANESWAR: On corruption charges, the Odisha government has dismissed Vinod Kumar, a senior IAS officer and former managing director of the Odisha Rural Housing Development Corporation (ORHDC).

Official sources said on Wednesday that this move was done after the corruption charges levelled against Kumar were confirmed to be valid and the Union government granted the requisite approvals.

Kumar, a 1989-batch IAS officer, is accused of improperly awarding funds totaling Rs 33.34 crore in the aftermath of the super storm. He was functioning as the ORHDC's MD at the time. The State government sustained significant financial losses as a result.

Following this, the Odisha government launched 27 vigilance charges against Kumar, with two of them leading to his conviction. The state government has consistently taken aggressive anti-corruption measures. According to the state's 'zero tolerance for corruption' policy, a top IFS official, Abhay Kanta Pathak, was recently forced to retire due to corruption charges.
