NEW DELHI: Rear Admiral Saif Nasser Al Rahbi, the Chief of the Royal Oman Navy, met Foreign Secretary Harsh V. Shringla on Monday on his five-day official visit to India.

"Both appealed to the lengthy history of naval cooperation between India and Oman. Informed by the PM's vision of SAGAR, they discussed ways to improve bilateral defence cooperation and marine security "Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, stated in a tweet.

Defence cooperation between India and Oman has evolved as a fundamental component of the two nations' strategic partnership. Both sides' defence ministers, as well as the Indian Defence Secretary, the Indian Army and Navy leaders, have visited India on a regular basis, with reciprocal visits to India by the three Omani service commanders, the Secretary General of Defence, and others.

The Ministries of Defense of both countries meet annually to assess their relations under the auspices of the Joint Military Cooperation Committee, while the Air Force and Navy hold regular staff discussions that have sparked new areas of cooperation. A big number of Omani military personnel participate in India's ITEC courses on a regular basis.
