The program is based on the well-known manga by Eiichiro Oda, which Toei Animation also successfully turned into an animated series. It chronicles the exploits of Monkey D. Luffy (Iaki Godoy) and his band of pirates as they go on adventures in search of the legendary Golden Rodger 'One Piece' treasure that will elevate Luffy to the rank of the greatest pirate captain ever.

A Certified Fresh 81% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes indicates how highly the critics have rated the program. But more significantly, it has also gained the support of the audience, who gave it an outstanding 94% audience score based on more than 2,500 user reviews.

Given Netflix's track record of disappointing anime fans with its live-action adaptations, including Death Note and Cowboy Bebop, this is an impressive accomplishment.

One of the factors that has helped One Piece succeed where other adaptations have failed is the fact that it has maintained fidelity to the original material while also making it approachable to new viewers.

While focusing on Luffy's early adventures, the series also makes passing references to the larger One Piece universe that longtime viewers are already familiar with. The fact that Oda was the show's creative consultant and had the authority to demand reshoots that adhered to his vision was also advantageous.

One Piece has not only raised the bar for Netflix's anime adaptations but also generated a great deal of anticipation for upcoming anime projects on the service.

Additionally, the hope for upcoming projects like the Duffer Brothers' new Death Note adaptation and the My Hero Academia movie has increased with One Piece ending Netflix's poor streak of anime adaptations.
