NEW DELHI: The new Parliament Building's opening is set for May 28, 2023, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Central government has sent an invitation to all current members of both chambers of parliament, and also to ministers, secretaries, chief ministers, and executives of Union territories. However, up to 20 parties, including Trinamool Congress, Congress, CPI, and AAP, have said that they will not attend the event.

"The inauguration of a new Parliament building is a momentous occasion," the opposition parties declared in a joint statement. Despite the fact that we think the administration is endangering democracy and that we disagree with the dictatorial way the new Parliament was established, we were willing to set aside our differences and celebrate this milestone. However, Prime Minister Modi's decision to dedicate the new Parliament building alone, utterly excluding President Murmu, is not only a serious insult but also an attack on our democracy that calls for a corresponding response.

Here is a complete list of parties which are not joining the inauguration:

Indian National Congress (INC),  Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Shiv Sena (UBT), Samajwadi Party (SP), Communist Party of India, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha,  Kerala Congress (Mani), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Trinamool Congress (TMC), Janata Dal (United), Nationalist Congress Party ,Communist Party of India (Marxist) , Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Indian Union Muslim League, National Conference , Revolutionary Socialist Party , Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam,

The present building of the Parliament was completed in 1927, which is now going to be nearly 100 years old. The lack of space was being experienced in this building as per the present needs. In both Houses, there was also a lack of convenient arrangements for the sitting of the MPs which was affecting the efficiency of the work of the Members.
