Odisha corona outbreak records 7,729 new cases in last 24 hours

Bhubaneswar: Odisha recorded 7,729 new cases of corona virus on Friday and 39 patients died of infection. A health department official said that the total number of infection cases in the state has reached 7,98,699 and 2,912 people have lost their lives so far. In the last 24 hours, 10,343 people have also recovered from infection. After which the number of covid recoverers in the state has gone up to 7,13,055.

The official said the number of active cases in the state is 82,679. In the new cases, 4,331 were confirmed from the isolation center while 3,398 were confirmed during the identification of people who came in contact with local patients. Khurda district has the highest number of 1,062 new cases, followed by Cuttack with 720 and Angul 449. Khurda has the highest number of 6 lives lost due to infection, the remaining cases are from other districts. The capital Bhubaneswar falls in the same district. The state government had tested 68,604 samples on Thursday. The positivity rate in Odisha is currently 11.26 per cent. State that lockdown is in place until June 17 to prevent infection in the state.

Meanwhile, the health department issued a notification saying that 5 per cent general and ICU beds earmarked for treatment of doctors and their family members in corona hospitals will be reserved for frontline workers. The department has asked hospitals to check all patients with suspected symptoms of Covid-19 through rapid antigen testing while availing IPD and OPD facilities.
