The 33rd Olympic Games kicked off with a spectacular opening ceremony on Friday, showcasing France's rich cultural diversity, revolutionary history, and stunning architectural heritage. Breaking away from tradition, the ceremony featured a six-kilometer parade along the Seine River, starting from the Austerlitz Bridge, with 85 boats carrying over 6,800 athletes from 205 countries, including a Refugee Olympic Team.

The parade, a departure from the usual stadium-based tradition, saw a large number of athletes absent due to competitions scheduled for the next day. French President Emmanuel Macron declared the games open, marking the official start of the 16-day extravaganza.

India's contingent was led by two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and table tennis stalwart Achanta Sharath Kamal. The Indian team, ranked 84th, comprised 78 athletes and officials, with women athletes wearing saris in the national flag's tricolor hues and men donning kurta-pajamas.

The ceremony was a vibrant display of French culture, with American pop star Lady Gaga enthralling the audience with her mesmerizing performance. The Seine River, a symbol of Paris' rich history, provided a stunning backdrop for the parade, which featured athletes and officials waving flags and cheering as they made their way along the riverbank.

The opening ceremony was a testament to France's commitment to showcasing its cultural and historical heritage on the world stage. With the Olympics expected to draw millions of viewers globally, the ceremony set the tone for an exciting and memorable sporting event.

The 33rd Olympic Games will feature a record number of female athletes, with women's boxing and surfing making their debut. The games will also see the introduction of new sports, including skateboarding, sport climbing, and karate.

As the world's top athletes gather in Paris, the focus will be on their incredible feats of strength, speed, and endurance. However, the Olympics are also a celebration of unity, friendship, and fair play, values that were on full display during the opening ceremony.

Over the next 16 days, the world will witness moments of triumph, heartbreak, and inspiration, as athletes push themselves to new heights in pursuit of Olympic glory. The 33rd Olympic Games have officially begun, and the stage is set for an unforgettable sporting spectacle.
