Akhilesh Shukla has held the post of District Vice President of Youth Congress. In his complaint to the police, he has told that he had reached the Congress office at Durgapur Road in Amethi town wearing a saffron colored kurta and white pants. Shukla alleged that many Congress leaders and workers present in the office were enraged on seeing him in saffron colored kurta and said, "You have come here as an agent of BJP. Municipal elections are going on, you should campaign for the Congress party."

Akhilesh Shukla claimed that there was a debate between the two sides on the issue of wearing saffron kurta, after which the leaders and workers fought with each other. He alleged that dozens of people, including Congress party's Amethi district president Pradeep Singhal and Youth Congress district president Shubham Singh, thrashed him badly and even tore his clothes. At the same time, District Youth Congress President Shubham Singh termed Shukla's allegations as baseless and said that it was a conspiracy to tarnish his image. He claimed that Shukla wanted a position in the organization, which he was not getting, so he was making baseless allegations.
