Piyush Goyal attacks Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee, says, 'India rejected his 'NYAY scheme'

New Delhi: Indian-American economist Abhijeet Banerjee was awarded the Nobel Prize for his work in the field of economics. Since then, Abhijeet has been in the headlines in India. He has often questioned the economic policies of the current government. The opposition and the ruling party are attacking each other. Union Minister of Railways and Commerce has expressed appreciation for Abhijeet Banerjee winning the Nobel Prize.

Piyush Goyal said, "I congratulate Abhijit Banerjee on winning the Nobel Prize, but you all know that his thinking is totally Left-leaning... He had supported and showered praise on (Congress's) NYAY, but the people of India totally rejected his thinking."

Congress leaders say that the party had taken the opinion and help of some big economists in preparing the manifesto, in which Abhijeet was also one of the key advisors. His suggestion was to give six thousand rupees per month to poor families.

 Abhijeet also spoke about the loss in the economy regarding demonetisation. Abhijeet Banerjee of Indian origin along with his wife Esther Dufflow and Michael Kramer have also been given that award. The award was given for the research conducted by him for 'Experiments to eliminate global poverty'. Abhijeet was born on 21 February 1961 in Kolkata. Poverty used to haunt Abhijeet Vinayak Banerjee since childhood. He used to ask questions to his economist father Dr. Deepak Banerjee and economist Dr. Nirmala.
