New Delhi: On the occasion of Independence Day, PM Modi had announced a ban on the use of single use plastic from the ramparts of the Red Fort. The Modi government will completely ban its use from October 2, the day of Gandhi Jayanti. The PM will send an email to 10 lakh people to express their gratitude. Union Water Power Ministry to launch awareness campaign across the country. It will mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on the 2nd of October.

Apart from the states, the Centre will also formulate a policy to curb the use of single use plastic. The provisions of punishment are also being considered to reduce the use of plastics and to curb it completely. On the occasion of the completion of five years of Swachh Bharat Mission, PM Modi will express his gratitude to 10 lakh citizens by email. The email will be in 12 different languages.

An official of the ministry said, the email will be sent to dignitaries and eminent people of the society who have played an important role in making the campaign a success. The aim of the government is to maintain stability in the concept of open defecation-free India and motivate people to connect more and more. The government has set a target of freeing the entire country from open defecation by October 2 this year. Plastics are proving to be quite harmful for the environment.
