NEW DELHI: On Friday, February 18, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally dedicate two more railway lines connecting Thane and Diva to the nation.

The Prime Minister will also flag off two Mumbai Suburban Railway suburban trains followed by his address on the occasion.

Kalyan is the important Central Railway junction, where traffic from the north and south of the country converges and flows towards the CSMT (Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus). Two tracks were utilised for slow local trains and two tracks were used for rapid local, Mail Express, and Goods trains between Kalyan and CSTM. Two extra tracks were intended to separate suburban and long-distance trains.

"The two new railway lines connecting Thane and Diva cost Rs 620 crore to construct and include a 1.4-kilometer train flyover, three major bridges, and 21 minor bridges. These lines will greatly reduce long-distance train traffic's interference with Mumbai's suburban rail traffic. These routes will also allow the city to introduce 36 new suburban trains "In a statement, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said.
