Uttar Pradesh: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the Congress general secretary, slammed the 'dismal' condition of affairs in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, saying non-Congress governments had done nothing but make tall claims of growth for three decades.

The Congress leader also took a shot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning how he could be so blind to the state's massive stray cattle menace.

"UP could have advanced, but the BJP is simply spending crores of dollars on marketing. "Why has such a situation evolved, and its straight response is that it has been politics in the name of caste and religion for the past 30 years," Priyanka remarked at an electoral meeting in Paniyara.

She said that the Bahujan Samaj Party, Samajwadi Party, and BJP were only able to establish governments by "exploiting the emotions" of people over caste and religion, and that the state has not progressed as a result.

"You are all to blame for this condition of affairs because you have taught their (leaders) that there is no need to work. Even if your children stay unemployed, you will vote by closing your eyes to emotional matters," Priyanka stated to the voters.
