New Delhi: Shri Ram Nath Kovind, India's President, today lay the foundation stone for Bhagwan Mahavir Super Speciality Hospital in Delhi.

The President, speaking on the occasion, stated that service in the Jain tradition has been prioritised. By the year 2023, he said, a state-of-the-art Bhagwan Mahavir Super Specialty Hospital with 250 beds would be finished. He expressed his delight that in this super specialty hospital, high-quality health services will be made available to all sections of society at affordable rates, with the underprivileged receiving them free of charge. He was also happy to learn that during the pandemic, this hospital served as a Covid care hospital. He urged people to remember that Covid isn't fully over yet. He urged all individuals to stay vigilant and follow all official regulations.

The President, speaking about the importance of face masks, stated that we know that surgical masks were first used in modern history in 1897, when doctors began using masks to protect themselves from bacteria during operations. However, ages ago, Jain saints recognised the significance of masks. They were able to avoid not only killing live beings but also preventing the entry of microorganisms into their bodies by covering their mouth and nose. Masks were utilised as an efficient way of protection against the virus during the Covid-19 pandemic. He claims that Jain saints placed a high value on walking to emphasise the necessity of physical exercise. He expressed confidence that this hospital would continue on the path of making humanity well through scientific traditions demonstrated by saints.

The Jain tradition instructs us to live a balanced and environmentally responsible lifestyle, he said. The current style of living and dietary habits are incompatible with nature. We know that Jain saints and their obedient disciples eat exclusively between the hours of sunrise and dusk. It's simple to keep healthy by adapting your lifestyle to the Sun's daily movement. The ideal lifestyle of Jain saints teaches us this lesson. He believes that combining such scientific traditions with modern medical systems in hospitals can benefit people's health.
