Patna: Amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha elections of 2024, Lalu and Tejashwi Yadav have faced yet another setback as former minister and RJD president Vrushin Patel has tendered his resignation from his post. Patel sent his resignation letter to Bihar RJD President Jagdanand Singh, citing the lack of democracy within the party and expressing concerns about its shift away from communal harmony and social justice. Saddened by these developments, he has decided to part ways with the party. Patel, however, has not disclosed his future political plans.

Reports suggest that Patel was vying for a ticket from the Vaishali Lok Sabha seat, which has been allocated to Bahubali Munna Shukla by RJD this time. Displeased with this decision, Patel has chosen to bid farewell to RJD. There are speculations circulating about his potential alliance with JDU. Prior to his association with RJD, Patel had been associated with Janata Dal, JDU, and Jitan Ram Manjhi's Hindustan Awam Morcha. He has also served as a minister in the Nitish Kumar-led government.

Vrushin Patel held a significant position within RJD as one of its senior leaders. He joined the party before the 2020 assembly elections, and Lalu Yadav appointed him as the vice president of the party. Following the announcement of RJD tickets, there has been a trend of leaders departing from the party. Recently, Ashfaq Karim, who was aspiring for a Lok Sabha ticket from Katihar, also resigned from RJD as the seat was allocated to Congress this time. There are widespread speculations regarding Karim's potential switch to JDU.
