Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh's Yogi Adityanath government is often the target of opponents over the renaming of places. There were even several memes on social media about CM Yogi changing names. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former CM Akhilesh Yadav, who has consistently attacked the Yogi government, has also said that the Yogi government only does the job of renaming.

But perhaps Akhilesh Yadav forgot the names of the districts he changed during his government. Often, it happens in politics when leaders see everyone else except their mistakes. But an RTI of The News Channel has revealed this to date. According to the report, Aajtak had filed an RTI to find out which places were renamed in the last 10 years. This has been replied to by the Revenue Board of UP.

In response, the Revenue Board said that the information about towns and cities does not come under their purview. But they have given a list of renaming of districts. According to RTI, 11 districts have been renamed in UP in the last 10 years. Two of these names have been changed by the Yogi government, while 9 changes have been made by Akhilesh Yadav himself during his government. The names of 8 districts were changed simultaneously by Akhilesh Yadav. This was done in July 2012. However, the Yogi government had talked about re-introducing ancient names by renaming Faizabad and Allahabad as Ayodhya and Prayagraj respectively.
