Indian tennis player Sania Mirza has announced her retirement. Sania has shared a post on social media in which she mentioned her tennis journey and achievements. She wrote – Australian Open and Dubai Open are going to be my last tournaments.Â
Sania has written in her note that 30 years ago, a six-year-old girl from Hyderabad went to the tennis court of Nizam Club for the first time with her mother and the coach explained how to play tennis. The coach thought I was too young to learn tennis. The fight for my dreams started at the age of six. This would not have been possible without the support of my parents and sister, my family, my coach, and my entire team including physio, who stood by me in good and bad times. I have shared my laughter, tears, pain, and joy with each and every one of them. I want to thank everyone for that. You all have helped me through the most difficult phase of my life. You not only gave this little girl from Hyderabad the courage to dream but also helped her achieve those dreams. Heartfelt thanks to all of you.
Sania continued saying that with a lot of hope when there was a lot of opposition, I dreamed of playing the Grand Slam and representing the country at the highest level of the sport. Now when I look back at my career, I feel that not only have I scored half-centuries in Grand Slam tournaments but also managed to win a few of them. Winning a medal for the country has been the biggest honor for me. It has been an honor for me to stand on the podium and see the Tricolor being honored across the globe. I am getting goosebumps and tears in my eyes as I write this.

She continues- I consider myself very blessed that I have lived my dream. Also achieved my goals. My family was always with me. It's been 20 years since I was a professional athlete and 30 years since I was a tennis player. That's what I've known all my life.
