Lucknow: From today i.e. Thursday (July 14), the Kanwar Yatra will be formally started. Dharmanagari is all set to welcome crores of Kanwariyas who have reached Haridwar from different states. A large number of Kanwariyas have already reached Haridwar. Meanwhile, an alert has been sounded in Uttar Pradesh regarding the Kanwar Yatra. A strict vigil is being kept especially in western UP. The three routes of the Kanwar Yatra will be flagged off by helicopter. Along with the Kanwar Yatra, the month of Sawan is also beginning. The traffic plan will also be implemented from Thursday night. Heavy vehicles on the highway will be stopped during the day.  

The Kanwar yatra will conclude on July 26. DIG Dr Yogendra Singh Rawat has informed that from July 14 to 19, heavy vehicles will be able to ply only between 12 pm and 5 am. From July 20, heavy vehicles will be completely stopped on Haridwar, Delhi, and Haridwar-Dehradun highways till the end of the fair. At the same time, in many areas, it has been decided to close down all illegal shops selling liquor and meat along the yatra route from July 14 to 26 before the commencement of the Kanwar Yatra in the month of Sawan.

Let us know that this year's Kanwar Yatra is being held between July 14 and July 26. It is the annual pilgrimage of Shiva devotees known as Kanwariyas to Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand to bring Ganga water, which they bring to temples in the month of Sawan in their areas to perform abhisheka on Shivlinga. Let us know that the UP government has already imposed Section 144 in Lucknow in view of festivals like Eid-ul-Adha (Bakrid), Muharram, Kanwar Yatra and Nag Panchami. It prohibits carrying tractors, horse carriages, bullock carts, gas cylinders, inflammable materials and any kind of weapons within a radius of one kilometre around the assembly.
