Eight institutions sued in scholarship scam in Uttarakhand

An FIR has been lodged against eight more educational institutions in the scholarship scam. These include five institutions in Dehradun and three in Saharanpur and Unnao districts of UP. This is the second major action taken by the SIT in the investigation of the scholarship scam in Dehradun and Haridwar. On 14 June itself, the SIT had lodged a report against 12 colleges in three states to get government money from fake documents. SIT in-charge IPS Manjunath TC said that six cases have been registered against eight institutions in the capital's Dalanwala, Patel Nagar, Clementown, Vasant Vihar and Vikasnagar Kotwali, after finding irregularities in scholarship distribution.

A report was filed against Shakuntala Devi Educational Institute of Technology Brahmanwala, Sai School of Nursing Mohabbaywala, Saraswati Institute of Technology Indranagar, Dronacharya College of Management Technology Vikasnagar, Dehradun. An FIR has also been lodged against Shivalik Institute of Technology Saharanpur and Chaman Baby ITI Saharanpur for allegedly grabbing scholarships from fake documents.

SIT investigation has been expedited as soon as the unlock starts, so that action can be taken against the educational institutions involved in the scam. SIT has so far filed 80 cases in Dehradun and Haridwar in the scholarship scam. These include 29 cases in Dehradun and 51 in Haridwar. Of these, 66 people have been arrested. Five officers of the Social Welfare Department are among those arrested.
