Politics intensified over the arrest of Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik. Amidst all this, NCP President Sharad Pawar said on Saturday that, 'Maharashtra's Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik's arrest is 'politically motivated' and tried to link him with fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim because he is a Muslim. Along with this, Sharad Pawar has also rejected the demands raised by the opposition for the resignation of Nawab Malik.
On February 23, Nawab Malik was arrested at the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in south Mumbai after being interrogated in a money-laundering probe case related to the activities of fugitive gangsters Dawood Ibrahim and his associates. After the arrest of Nawab Malik, the opposition in Maharashtra has intensified the demand for his resignation. Amidst all this, Sharad Pawar has now said, "The arrest of Nawab Malik is politically motivated. He is being linked to Dawood because they are Muslims. Nawab Malik his family members are being deliberately harassed, but we will oppose it.''
When asked about the opposition BJP's demand for the resignation of Nawab Malik as a minister, he said, "Union Minister Narayan Rane, who belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party, different criteria are being applied for Nawab Malik. PM Modi should tell why Narayan Rane did not resign? When he was arrested.''
